In the old days there was no choice of wired or wireless security systems. Technology has come a long way since then. Wireless security allows for the complete installation of an alarm system without drilling of all of your windows and doors.
A typical wired installation requires that the technician drill a hole in each door and window to install a contact and run wire back to the control panel. This always has the potential of your household items being damaged along with the mess created while drilling.
Although a hard wired installation is less expensive for the contacts the labor required offsets the savings as compared to a wireless installation. Also, consider the fact that rodents are attracted to the wires and can cause faults when they chew through the wire. Small insects such as spiders and ants can crawl along the wire creating a mini-highway for pests to infiltrate your home.
The major downfall to wireless devices is the purchase of batteries for all of the transmitters. The batteries will typically last from 3-5 years depending on use. This can add up if you have a large installation but it is a small price to pay when you consider the many advantages.
