Home Security with Pets

Providing Home Security when pets are in the home can pose a unique set of issues. If you are using motion detectors you must make sure to use motion detectors with pet immunity.

Pet immune motion detectors can be purchased for 5-100 pound pets. With pet immune motion detectors the motion is detected when one temperature(human) moves in front of an infrared source with a different temperature such as a wall. The energy is detected by the motion detector but in the case of a pet immune detector the change is smaller and will not trigger an alarm.

Pet immune motion detectors look the same as non pet immune detectors. You must check the product specifications to be sure that you have a pet immune detector.
